RIF of NOVA books are distributed with the help of "liaisons" in schools and children's centers in 39 Northern Virginia locations. Liaisons are teachers, reading specialists, librarians, administrators, and even parents. Distribution days are full of fun and creativity, providing children with an exciting environment where they can select a book of their very own -- to keep and reread again and again. For many children, it's their first time ever to choose a book to own. When the book is read by moms, dads, and little brothers and sisters, too, the impact goes well beyond one book. In the 2017-2018 academic year, distribution days have included an Olympic Reading Relay. to coincide with the Olympics, "RIF on the Red Carpet" with a kid-sized "Academy Awards" presentation, "Literacy Bingo & Community Outreach" where over 125 students and family members competed in a rip-roaring game of book bingo -- along with many celebrations of Read Across America day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and other holidays.
