The Washington Ballet's community engagement programs are housed at the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC) in Southeast Washington, DC. Our community engagement programs include DanceDC, the EXCEL! Scholarship, and The Washington School of Ballet's Southeast Campus.

About DanceDC
DanceDC has served Washington, DC public school students since the program's launch in 1999. DanceDC is an interdisciplinary dance program that provides a seven-week in-school residency to second and third grade classes combining ballet with core subjects in compliance with DC Public Schools (DCPS) standards and the National Dance Education Standards. This arts integration program concludes with a culminating performance at the end of the residency.

The Washington Ballet endeavors to reach underserved areas of the DC community through DanceDC. We serve nearly 1000 diverse students with class programming each year, led by master dance educators who have extensive training in the arts and degrees in education. As part of the program, students participate in field trips to see high-quality dance performances by The Washington Ballet and other nationally- and internationally-recognized dance companies. Students engage in program efforts to improve test scores and vocabulary comprehension and develop a greater sense of self-esteem, confidence and discipline.

About EXCEL! Scholarships
The Washington Ballet selects talented students from DanceDC participant schools to receive full merit-based scholarships to The Washington School of Ballet. EXCEL! Scholarship recipients have the opportunity to study classical ballet, free of charge, for a full school year. This program is vital for these students, who would not be able to pursue their dance training without financial support.
